The Human Nutrition and Dietetics concentration provides students with training to develop nutritional strategies and programs for people with acute and chronic illnesses, as well as wellness programs to prevent the onset of chronic diseases. Completion of this concentration prepares students for entry into the dietetic internship. Registered Dietitians (RD's) have completed an intensive study of all aspects of nutrition and health and must complete an internship after graduation before being eligible to take the national RD exam.
Nutrition and Wellness provides instruction and experience in the basic nutritional sciences, community nutrition, public health education, and exercise and sport science. Graduates may work in a variety of settings such as voluntary and community health organizations, health care, government, education, and the fitness industry. This concentration also prepares students for graduate training in nutrition, public health education, and exercise and sport science. Students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a possibility of a minor in Health Studies.
The Nutrition Science program provides students with training in nutrition, biology and chemistry to pursue careers in the medical sciences, biomedical research and biotechnology. This program also fulfills the academic prerequisites for admission to medical, osteopathic and dental schools. Students in the program spend one semester doing independent research with faculty in the department.
