The Department of Nutrition offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Science (MS) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees (general information sheet attached)(pdf). The Master's and PhD degrees are offered with specialization in applied or basic nutrition science. These programs have several science pre-requisites that must be completed prior to application for admission. Pre-requisites for admission to the Graduate Program in Nutrition include: 2-3 semesters of Biology (General Biology with Lab, Human Physiology) and 3-4 semesters of Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry with Lab, Organic Chemistry with Lab, Biochemistry).

Applications for admission are reviewed during January, February, and March of each year for Fall admission and in September, October, and November of each year for Spring admission. The following are required for evaluation by the Graduate School: a completed application form and payment of the application fee; three letters of recommendation; a letter of intent that includes research and professional objectives, and that identifies faculty with research interests most central to student research and career interests; official transcripts of all previous college course work; and the Verbal and Quantitative scores on the Graduate Record Examination (taken within 5 years of application). Foreign students are required to submit TOEFL scores. All application materials must be sent to the Graduate School. Once complete, application materials are then forwarded to the Department of Nutrition for review. Questions regarding application status should be directed to the Graduate School.
