Dietetic Internship
Welcome to the Dietetic Internship Homepage!
The Dietetic Internship provides an accredited post-baccalaureate, supervised practice program with a general emphasis. Placement sites are with hospitals, diet/fitness centers, long-term care facilities, and county health departments. This program is 10 months long and requires a separate application for the national computer matching used for selection by Dietetic Internship programs.

The UNCG Dietetic Internship will prepare you for successful, professional practice. This is accomplished through preparatory specialized course work in advanced medical dietetics and current practice issues and six months of supervised practice. Following completion of the internship performance requirements, you are then eligible to sit for the registration exam by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association to become a Registered Dietitian. The UNCG Dietetic Internship is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association.
Mission and Goals of the Dietetic Internship
Mission
The mission of the Dietetic Internship program is to prepare competent entry-level dietitians for positions in clinical, foodservice, and community nutrition to better serve individuals and their families particularly in North Carolina. The program provides a curriculum with supervised practice in order to complete the Post-BS Certificate – Dietetic Internship (DI) program. The DI program is structured to provide diverse learning opportunities within the state that enable each student to further develop and apply their knowledge and skills in order to provide quality nutrition care in diverse practice settings. The learning environment helps promote student understanding of the importance of self-reflection, oral and written communication, problem solving, teamwork, life-long learning, and service to the profession and the community.

Goals
1. The program will prepare competent entry-level practitioners who obtain employment in dietetics-related positions.
Outcomes Measures
2. 90% of interns complete the program within their planned time frame.
3. 80% of responding program graduates will have passed the RD exam within one year of program completion.
4. 70% of responding program graduates will have obtained employment related to dietetics or be enrolled in a post graduate degree program within 6 months of program completion.
5. 75% of employers will rate program graduates as meeting or exceeding the rating of “adequately skilled” for performance competencies expected of entry level dietitians.
2. The program will encourage the development of life-long learning.
Outcomes Measures
2. 25% of responding program graduates will have obtained or be engaged in obtaining additional credentials or post-graduate studies within 3 years following graduation.
3. The program will prepare graduates who demonstrate a commitment to professional and community service.

2. 20% of responding program graduates will report having assumed a leadership role in the national, state, or local dietetic association by 3 years post graduation.
