Meet the Students


2007-2008 Dietetic Intern Class

Bryce Alford
Bryce Alford received his B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from UNCG in 2007. During his undergraduate studies he gained some valuable experience working in the Dietary department at High Point Regional as a Dietary Assistant. His career interests include working in the areas of weight management and sports nutrition. He will be completing his supervised practice at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and at Moses Cone Health Systems.

Nancy Bean
Nancy Bean earned her B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in May 2007 from UNCG. Currently, she is interested in renal nutrition, cardiac rehabilitation, and diabetes education. Nancy will be completing her supervised practice at Randolph Hospital and Randolph County Health Department.

Stephanie Carriker
Stephanie Carriker earned her B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from UNCG in 2006. She also earned an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University in Music Education in 1997. She is currently completing a Master’s of Science (non-thesis) in Nutrition at UNCG. Stephanie is interested in combining her teaching skills with her nutrition knowledge in order to work in the community nutrition field. She will be completing her supervised practice program at Action Health, Lowe’s Foods, Rowan Regional Medical Center, and Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Heather Colleran
Heather Colleran received her B.S. in Chemistry from UNC-Wilmington in 1997 and in Exercise Science/ Physical Education from UMass-Boston in 2003. She is a PhD student under the mentorship of Dr. Cheryl Lovelady, looking at the effects of exercise and energy restriction on bone mineral density in lactating women. Heather will be completing her supervised practice program at Salem Kidney Dialysis Center, High Point Regional Medical Center , Arbor Acres, and the Forsyth County Health Department.

Betsy Fisher
Betsy Fisher completed her B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004. She is also currently completing her M.S. degree. While at UNCG, Betsy has been a graduate research assistant in the School of Nursing. She is especially interested in sports nutrition, weight management, and wellness. She will be completing her supervised practice program at UNCG's Wellness Center, Lowes Foods, and Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Sarah Holdren
Sarah Holdren completed her B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in 2006. She is currently completing a Master’s of Science (non-thesis) in Nutrition. She will be completing her supervised practice at the W.G (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC.

Lisa Johnson
Lisa Johnson graduated from UNCG in 2006 with a B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She is an ACE certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She lives in Greensboro with her husband and four children and aspires to do nutrition counseling and fitness programs in faith-based settings. She plans to do her supervised practice at Evergreens Senior Healthcare Group, Thomasville Medical Center and Preventative Cardiology at Forsyth Medical Center.

Ashley Mathis
Ashley Mathis received her B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in Health Studies from UNCG in 2007. She gained clinical experience while volunteering at Moses Cone Health System and worked as a research assistant for Dr. Cheryl Lovelady on the Active Mothers Postpartum Study. Her professional interests include health promotion and disease prevention, as well as maternal and pediatric nutrition. Ashley will complete her supervised practice program at ActionHealth at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Lowes Foods, Guilford County Schools, and Duke University Medical Center.

Tommy Rodgers
Tommy Rodgers received his B.A. degree in Human Relations from High Point University in 1998, and is currently completing his M.S. in Nutrition from UNCG. His professional interests include weight loss and maintenance, sports nutrition, and corporate fitness and wellness. Tommy will be completing his supervised practice program at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC.

Lynn Weisner
Lynn Weisner received her B.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from UNCG in 2004. She is completing a M.S. and is in the Dietetic Internship program. She will be completing her supervised practice program at Thomasville Medical Center and Randolph Health Department beginning in January 2008.
