School of Nursing

Resources available from NLN:

The following resources are available from NLN:

The NLN website is a great resource for services and information related to nursing education. The “what’s new” section is a great place to start! NLN has introduced two really important items in Fall, 2003 that will be of great interest to nurse educators.

  1. A Task Force has worked hard to propose some Nurse Educator competencies, in preparation for Nurse Educator certification exams, planned to begin in 2005. These competencies are available under “what’s new” and NLN is seeking your input! Go to this site and see what you think, and offer your comments.
  2. NLN has established criteria for “Centers for Excellence” awards for which Schools of Nursing can apply. Schools can apply for awards in one of three different areas of excellence:
    1. Creating Environments that Enhance Student Learning and Professional Development
    2. Creating Environments that Promote Ongoing Faculty Development
    3. Creating Environments that Advance Nursing Education Research

Go to the NLN website to read the criteria and guidelines for applying for one of these awards.

Speaking of Nursing Education Research:

Are you interested in doing some research on a topic related to nursing education? Not sure where to go for funding? The NLN offers grants to fund nursing education research! Go to the NLN website and click on “research.” Here you will find guidelines, deadlines for submission of proposals, priorities for funding, and lists of grants funded in the last two years. We all know that many of our teaching strategies and curriculum designs are not based on research—let’s change that by applying for one of these grants!!

Other services from NLN:

Be sure to let your School know about these services!

NLN has information from their surveys of nursing programs about nursing supply issues. NLN is considered the sole source of information about all levels of nursing education, and has been collecting these data since 1953. Information about how to purchase these reports is available from their website under “about NLN”, “products and services”, “research and professional development”, “research surveys.”

NLN also has a variety of test products for use by Schools of Nursing. These products include pre-admission tests, end of course tests, and CE modules. Information is available on the website by clicking on “test products.”
