The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) came into existence on April 1, 2002
with temporary office at 123K Mossman Building. The first director for OTT
is Jerry MCGuire. Prior to OTT’s inception, UNCG handled technology commercialization
efforts in concert with the Office of the Provost, Senior Counsel and the UNCG
Patent Committee.
In August 2002, OTT moved to permanent office space on the third floor of Brown
Building in the west end of the campus. The opening of OTT enables UNCG to
build an infrastructure capable of handling all innovations and inventions
disclosed by UNCG faculty, staff and students. This new resource will seek
to commercialize UNCG technologies. In the initial period of operation the
primary goals of the OTT are:
Establishing a network with entrepreneurial groups and venture capital sources
Interaction with various economic development organizations in the Triad
Collaboration with universities in the TRIAD to bundle technologies for licensing
Revising UNCG Patent Policy using proven best practices of other institutions
Establishing a Patent Review Committee and Commercialization Panel as a part of the process
