Prevention Strategies is committed to developing cost-effective and evidence-based programs and resources in order to maximize health outcomes and produce brighter futures for young people. This commitment is evident in the scientific approach we take to developing and evaluating those programs.
Prevention Strategies is involved in every phase of prevention research. We conduct research to: identify modifiable risk and protective factors (mediators) that are associated with the outcome of interest; develop interventions that target those mediators; test the effectiveness of programs with a large, randomized samples; and work to disseminate those programs to the organizations that need them (e.g., schools and community coalitions).
Researchers at Prevention Strategies have replicated this approach on more
than a dozen grants awarded from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The result
of this work has been several effective and innovative substance abuse prevention
programs designed for use with high school and college students.
