What types of jobs do graduates with a DrPH (Doctor of Public Health) degree hold?

  • Public health educators typically develop and carry out planned health promotion and disease prevention programs with individuals, groups, organizations and communities, as well as participate in health policy development at the state and national level. Our graduates can expect to work in federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state agencies, community-based organizations, health departments, hospitals, clinics, universities, research organizations and managed care organizations.

How long does it take to complete the degree program?

  • The DrPH program requires 63 semester hours (post-MPH) of specified, sequential courses including applied research experience. Admitted students usually begin the program in the Fall semester.Part-time students enroll for up to seven years, including summers, and take two courses each semester (min.).

  • Applicants are encouraged to submit applications by February 15th although applications will be accepted after that date until the fall class is filled. A complete application submitted to the UNCG Graduate School includes: an application form, official transcripts, official GRE scores taken within the last five years, three recommendations, and a one-page statement of professional goals. What financial assistance is available?

  • Financial support is available for qualified full-time students in the form of graduate assistantships, research assistantships, and in-state and out-of-state tuition waivers. For more information and an application, contact Wanda Walker at 336-334-3240 or wanda_walker@uncg.edu .

What are the office hours of the department?

  • 8 am to 5 pm; Office hours for individual faculty members vary and can be obtained by contacting Ms. Walker at 336-334-3240.

Where is the Public Health Education Department located?

  • The Public Health Department is on the fourth floor of the Health and Human Performance (HHP) Building in Room 437. The HHP building faces Walker Avenue and is across from the Walker Parking deck. The most direct access to the Public Health Department is through the entry doors facing Shaw Hall residence dorm beside the tennis courts.
