Curriculum Vitae
Biography
I received my undergraduate degree from James Madison University and my Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As an assistant professor in the department, I'm interested in health and wellness coaching, particularly in physician practice settings and worksites. In addition to being a Master Certified Health Education Specialist, I am a Certified Health and Wellness Coach and Certified Personal Trainer.
Before coming to UNCG, I worked for 20 years in a variety of health system settings and nonprofits including Novant Health/Forsyth Medical Center, QualChoice of North Carolina (a health maintenance organization), Hospice at Greensboro, Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and United Way. My primary roles in these organizations centered on health communications and cause marketing. Having worked with physician practices to help them better communicate with their patients and referring providers, I learned about quality assurance and risk management to improve health outcomes.
At UNCG, we are working with physician practices to study and better understand how we can infuse health educators as health and wellness coaches in practice settings, as well as population-based environments that influence change on a broader scale. In 2011 and 2012, we hosted health and wellness coach certification trainings, and plan to continue to offer it on a regular basis.
