Our Plans and Budget

Our PDToPPs/MSP/PTRA Institutes are funded by a grant from the NC Department of Public Instruction, which is, in turn, funded by the National Science Foundation MSP (Math and Science Partnership) Program. Our first summer --- 2008 – went well, with our two institutes fully subscribed and a lot of positive comments from participants. This didn’t surprise us as PTRA (Physics Teaching Resource Agents) has a long and successful history working with the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) conducting this kind of program.

We applied for funds to expand our offering from one institute (1 week) per summer at UNCG (University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and UNCP (UNC Pembroke) to 2 per summer, and to expand to UNCC (UNC Charlotte). We will sponsor 6 institutes in 2010. The 2010 institute in the Charlotte area will be taught at Belmont Abbey College.

Teacher stipend $12/hour for first-time participants, $14/hour for teachers who participated in 2008.

Participants receive up to $50 per day in housing, meals and travel allowance in addition to a stipend.
