Washington Summer Study Session 2009

The Center for Legislative Studies and the Political Science Department offer PSC 300, Congress in the Washington Context. This is a three-credit course that meets during the first summer session every other year. Students spend the first three weeks of the course living and studying in Washington, DC. In 2009, students met with members of the North Carolina congressional delegation including both senators and all three House members who represent parts of Greensboro. Students also discussed Congress with congressional staff, lobbyists, executive branch officials, political journalists, and think tank executives. To kick off the course, the department hosted a Capitol Hill reception for students, faculty, and our Washington-area alumni. This program, which includes scholarship money to defray the cost of student housing, was partially funded by three UNCG endowments: the Annie Moring Alexander Scholarship, the Elizabeth Davidson Endowment, and the Louise Alexander Fund. The course is taught by Dr. David Holian. Applications for the summer 2011 course will be available during the 2011 spring semester.
