Social Psychology

Social Area Contact Person:   Dr. Jackie White, (336) 256-0014, jackie_white@uncg.edu

The social psychology program is designed to introduce students to theoretical issues and to applied, biological, and developmental perspectives in social psychology. Students accepted into the social program are exposed to a broad range of social phenomena, such as attachment in close relationships, aggression, attitudes, communication, gender relations, intergroup comparison, and social competence.

Collaborative research is encouraged and specialization is developed through seminars, research experience and laboratory meetings. Our faculty represent a range of interests in both human and animal social psychology and we examine both applied and theoretical issues. Please visit each faculty member's home page (links are to the left) for more detailed information about their research.

In addition to its annual endowed lecture series, the Psychology Department maintains a general colloquia schedule that includes speakers from social, cognitive, developmental and clinical. The Social area has regular "brown bag" lunch meetings to discuss research-related issues. We usually meet four to six times a semester. The Social area has ample lab space for faculty and student research.
