Dr. Allan's research focuses
on child anxiety, particularly social anxiety. His
work in this area uses a developmental
psychopathology framework that addresses
individual-level correlates and familial factors. He
is currently working on a model that examines the
mediating role that child cognitive factors (e.g.,
distorted thoughts) may play in the relationship
between familial factors (e.g., parental
overprotection) and child social anxiety. He is
interested in applying the knowledge learned from
this line of research in developing and validating
ecologically relevant child anxiety treatment. This
research is being initiated in his Child Anxiety
Clinic (a sub-specialty of the
UNCG Psychology Clinic).
