Teacher
licensure in North Carolina and qualification for licensure
in most of the other states may be earned at four UNCG professional
schools and various departments within the College of Arts and
Sciences. Students may select licensure programs in a variety
of subject areas.
The School of Education offers programs in Elementary Education,
Middle Grades Education, Education of the Deaf, and Special
Education; and jointly directs, with departments in the College
of Arts and Sciences, programs for teacher licensure in core
academic subjects at the secondary level.
The School of Health and Human Performance, the School of Human
Environmental Sciences, and the School of Music offer teacher
education curricula in their respective fields. The Departments
of Art and Theatre offer teacher education curricula in their
respective subject areas.
Graduates of approved teacher education curricula are eligible
for initial licensure on the basis of UNCG’s recommendation
to the State Department of Public Instruction. As requirements
may vary among departments, students should check with their
major advisor for specific information regarding their program.
