Phi Beta Kappa

Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most respected honorary society in the United States, recognizes outstanding academic accomplishment in the liberal arts and
sciences. Founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa now has chapters at more than 250 of the leading institutions of higher education across the country. The Epsilon Chapter of North Carolina was founded at UNCG in 1934 and is one of six chapters in the state today. Membership is offered based upon academic achievement, intellectual breadth, and good character. Being elected to Phi Beta Kappa is a great honor and confirms excellence in the study of the liberal arts and sciences.
