UNCG Police

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Police Department’s goal is to support the mission of UNCG by working to create a safe and secure environment. The men and women who comprise the UNCG Police Department are fully trained law enforcement professionals.

The UNCG Police Department became operational as its own police agency in 1988. Since that time it has grown to its present authorized strength of 32 sworn police officers and 34 non-sworn employees. The Department also has 8 to 10 student employees who make up the Police Ranger Service.

The Department has two operational divisions: Field Operations and Support Services, and operates from three locations. The Police Communications office is open 24 hours per day and is located at the corner of Tate and Spring Garden streets. The main administrative office, which is open during normal business hours, is at 1605 Spring Garden Street near Aycock Street. The Criminal Investigations Unit is located downtown at 421 Eugene Court.

Although similar in appearance and function to other law enforcement organizations, the UNCG Police Department emphasizes community education and awareness rather than mere reaction to criminal incidents and public safety hazards. The UNCG Police Department has a variety of safety programs available to the students, faculty, and staff at no cost. Those programs and other police services are listed on the departmental Web site:
