(Spring) 534 Acting for the Camera (2:1:3) Pr. admission to appropriate degree program, or permission of instructor For advanced undergraduates and graduate students in Theatre. An introductory examination and exploration of the technique of acting for the camera. Students will refine and adjust the way they work, but the core technique remains the same. (All) 589 Experimental Course: Feminist Theatre (3:3) Survey of twentieth and twenty-first century British and American feminist theatre, focusing on performance texts that address salient concerns of first, second, and third wave feminisms. (Offered spring '10) Course with new or changed prerequisites for 2010–11 510 Directing II (3:3) Pr. two theatre courses and THR 201 and 410; or permission of instructor. An intermediate directing course that involves the student in the theory and practice of contemporary plays. (Spring) Courses that have been deleted from the curriculum effective fall 2010 348 Exp Crs: Theatre in the Public Interest (3:3) Pr. THR 500, 501, or 502 Through class discussion, guest lectures, videos, reading, research, and service learning, students will explore theatre artists and groups known for community-based socially and politically responsive work. This study will serve as basis for service learning project. 521 Stage Violence (2:1:3) Pr. THR 231 and 232 Intensive study and practice of the mechanics of stage violence. Designed for advanced performance studies students, the course focuses on safe performance techniques for violence in both period and contemporary texts. (Spring) 522 Stage Dialects (2:2) Pr. THR 222 and 322 A study of selected dialects of English for performance, using methods current in the field. Course work will include understanding of dialect in cultural context and application to dramatic text. (Spring) 589 Experimental Course: Spirituality in African American Drama (3:3) The course will examine the spiritual dynamics of the role of the black church and the African American playwright.
