The Student Excellence Award is UNCG's highest award to outstanding undergraduates. This award recognizes excellence not just in academic work but activities outside of class as well. Administered by the University Honors Program, it is given each year to about twenty five juniors and seniors.

Merit Awards

Alumni Scholars are chosen as entering freshmen on the bases of academic standing, intellectual promise, character, leadership ability and demonstrated ambition. These scholarships are provided by the alumni through the University Alumni Giving Program. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic achievement to continue to receive the awards until their graduation.

Kathleen Price and Joseph M. Bryan Scholarships are awarded annually for undergraduate study in the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics. Selection criteria include superior academic achievement and potential in the field of business and economics, intellectual promise, character and leadership ability. The scholarships are renewable for up to three years of study, contingent upon academic achievement.

The Ethel Virginia Butler Centennial Scholarship, established in 1991, awards new students based on their outstanding academic achievement and leadership potential. The scholarships are renewable for up to three years of study, contingent upon academic achievement.

Ariane Gallop Webb

The Ruth McKaughan and W. Bryan Carter Scholarship is awarded to outstanding young women from North Carolina for undergraduate study leading to a Baccalaureate degree in English. This scholarship was established by the bequest of Mrs. Ruth McKaughan Carter, who received her BA in English from UNCG in 1932.

Fiftieth Reunion Class Awards, established in 1986, are made possible by ongoing class gifts given annually by alumni on the occasion of the50th anniversary of their graduation from the University. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman on the basis of exceptional academic ability and talent.

The Elizabeth Louisa "Libby" Jones Scholarship is awarded every four years to an incoming student planning to major in mathematics, computer science, chemistry, or physics.

Caryn Latia Richardson

The L. Richardson and Emily Preyer Scholarship was established in 1991 to aid an outstanding undergraduate student. Upon the request of Emily Preyer, '39, the scholarship is awarded based on academic merit.

Susan Elizabeth Driscoll

Katharine Smith Reynolds Scholars are North Carolina residents who are selected as entering freshmen on the bases of superior academic achievement and potential, evidence of moral force of character, qualities of leadership and motivation toward useful purposes in life. The scholarships are provided by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation of Winston-Salem in memory of Mrs. R. J. (Katharine Smith) Reynolds, '04. Recipients are required to maintain superior academic achievement to receive the awards until graduation.

Superintendents' Scholarships are awarded to students who come to UNCG from high schools in the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium, based on the recommendation of their area superintendents in conjunction with the high school principal and guidance counselors.
