Commencement Speaker Guidelines
UNCG has two commencement ceremonies, December and May. Almost always, the December commencement speaker is the UNCG faculty member who receives the Senior Alumni Teaching Excellence Award at the Celebration of Excellence Day in the previous spring.
Normally, the May commencement speaker is selected by the Chancellor from those who are chosen to receive honorary degrees by the UNCG Board of Trustees. In years past, the Chancellor has selected speakers whom she felt could give interesting, informative addresses that the students would enjoy.
Honorary Degrees are the highest honors that the University can bestow. The link to honorary degree guidelines is below:
