More Registration Details

Check Your Registration Status

You may check your registration status on the Web by logging on to UNCGenie, and going to the registration menu. On the registration menu, click on "Check Your Registration Status" and select Spring 2012. Your registration access window and status information will display.

PINumbers

All UNCG students are assigned PINumbers for security purposes. If you forget or disable your PINumber, you must present a picture ID in person at the SuperLab Help Desk in Jackson Library to re-establish your PIN information. You may change your existing PIN at any time by accessing UNCGenie.

Advising and Advising Codes

Advising codes are required to access the registration menu, including the drop/add screens. New six-digit codes are issued to all students for each semester. Previous semester codes cannot be used to access current semester registration.

New first-year and transfer students are assigned and meet with advisors during their initial orientation/registration process; transfer students are also encouraged to register during registration-by-appointment and should seek the guidance of their advisors regarding course selection. Continuing students are responsible for making appointments with their advisors during the advising periods that occur in conjunction with early April and November registrations. See the registration calendar.

Graduate students in certain programs must also see advisors to obtain advising codes. Please consult the "Check Your Registration Status" option, under Registration in the Student tab in your UNCGenie account.

If you misplace your advising code, contact your advisor or major department office.

Schedule Worksheet

Sample Schedule Worksheets may assist you in completing your registration. Read all registration instructions carefully and complete the worksheet before you meet with your advisor or attempt to register. Be sure to list alternate courses on your worksheet in the event your first choices are filled.

Restricted or Closed Courses

Many courses have prerequisite requirements or other enrollment restrictions or require written permission for registration. Please pay special attention to any course restrictions listed as footnotes in the online course schedule and to prerequisites or other requirements listed in course descriptions in the Undergraduate and Graduate School Bulletins.

Adding Closed or Restricted Courses

To add any class without a waiting list that is closed or restricted, you must obtain special permission from the department or instructor. Forms of special permission include special departmental stamps and the instructor's written signature on an official drop/add form (available from the University Registrar's Office and departmental offices). A process that allows the instructor to override his or her own courses online is available, after which you may go to the Web and register. If your instructor does not opt to use this method, you may have your drop/add form processed in the University Registrar's Office, 180 Mossman Building.

Auditing Courses

Auditing a course is the privilege of being present in the classroom when space is available. No credit is involved, no examinations are required, and no grades are reported. Attendance, class preparation and participation are at the discretion of the department head and/or instructor.

Admission to a class on an audit basis is determined following the close of regular registration for any given semester, and permission to register for a class on an audit basis must be granted in writing by the instructor.

Friday, January 13, is the last day to change a course from audit to credit status or from credit to audit status, and is the last day to register for or add a course without obtaining special permission.
