Last week I went [P: asistí o fui] to a terrible party. Everyone else got [P: llegó] there early. When I arrived [P: llegué] most of the guests were chatting [I: charlaban] and drinking [I: tomaban o bebían] wine. I didn't know [I: no conocía] anybody, but I met [P: conocí] a very handsome young man who told [P: dijo] me that he was [I: era] a law student. Finally he managed [P: pudo] to get a scholarship. According to him, the university had offered [I: había ofrecido] him a lot of money. The check was going [I: iba] to arrive soon, but he needed [I: necesitaba] about five hundred dollars to buy books. He tried [P: trató de o quiso, etc.] to convince me, but fortunately I didn't lend [P: presté] him any money. Later I found out [P: supe] that he wasn't [I: era] a law student at all. It was [P: fue] all a big lie.
