The International Programs Center has awarded Weaver/Friends of Romance Languages awards to 34 students participating in summer study abroad. The H. Michael Weaver Endowment in International Programs was established in August, 1994. The purpose of the fund is to promote the University's international mission, and in particular to enable UNCG students to participate in the University's Study Abroad Programs. In addition, the Department of Romance Languages has graciously devoted part of the proceeds of a fund made possible by contributions from supporters of that department.

The Department of Romance Languages would like to congratulate French major Regis Froment, who has won a Student Excellence Award, UNCG's highest honor for undergraduates. Félicitations à Regis!

The Italian 102-02 class has donated $50.00 to Friends of Romance Languages through a contribution by Mr. Jule Spach. The donation was made in recognition of the students' translation of an article for Mr. Spach. The article describes Mr. Spach's encounter with two Italian peasant women who rescued him after his airplane was shot down in the Italian countryside during World War II. The women fed and clothed Mr. Spach, who was later detained by the Germans. Mr. Spach and the women were reunited 25 years later in Campligia, where the events had taken place. In April, 2005, Mr. Spach visited the Italian 102 class. The students read their translation of the article, and Mr. Spach shared memories of his experience. Molte grazie!
