Kathy Morton
Kathy Morton After obtaining my Master's Degree in French at UNCG, I have continued exploring my passion of the language and culture. I teach French, travel to France yearly and I'm in the process of writing a book about French culture and cuisine. Recently I wrote an article about Angers and the Cointreau Factory, which appeared in the November, 2006 issue of the magazine France Today. Learning French at UNCG has afforded opportunities that I never imagined. ~ Kathryn Morton
Pam Harrod Hired As Director of International Admissions
Pam Harrod I have recently been hired in a new position as Director of International Admissions in the International Programs Center, UNCG. Effective September 1, 2006, all international undergraduate admissions functions are being handled in the IPC office. This includes recruiting, receiving and reviewing applications, and counseling international applicants. Our goal is to better serve our international community of students in an efficient, timely, and helpful manner.
Lauren Oliver's Documentary
Lauren Oliver During the 2006/07 academic year Lauren Oliver shot a documentary film in France on the life and career of jazz guitarist Francis-Alfred Moerman, under the auspices of the Fulbright Grant. Lauren will divide his time between the Poitou-Charentes region and Paris.

"While lacking a true, French accent (my own fault for taking up the language so late), I enunciate clearly, make the proper liaisons, and employ a more than adequate vocabulary, all without a trace of an American accent. I have my French studies at UNCG to thank for these admirable qualities, and though I will never be mistaken for a local, it doesn't bother me in the least so long as I have no trouble understanding or being understood by the real ones."

Peterson Begins Doctoral Program at Chapel Hill
Sarah Peterson

I earned my MA at UNCG last spring after completing my thesis, "Flânerie in Zola's Paris." This fall, I began the doctoral program in French at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Currently, I am finishing up my graduate course work, researching dissertation topics, and working as a Teaching Fellow for the UNC Department of Romance Languages.
As part of a pedagogy panel, I presented 'Computers and Communicative Language Learning' on October 12, 2006 at the Mountain Interstate Foreign Language Conference at James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA)

Max Armfield on International Disputes
[Max Armfield]

"I plan on using my knowledge of French in the international corporate arena as an attorney, performing international dispute resolution. Being able to read, write and speak French has already proven to be an asset in acquiring internships abroad and in networking with other Francophones. I also find that French often comes in handy when trying to decipher technical Latin-based jargon, which is so prevalent in the scientific and legal fields."
