We are very proud of our most recent scholarship recipient Sarah Allen. Last fall the NC chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French officially announced the creation of the John Philip Couch Scholarship to support study abroad in France for undergraduate French majors and graduate students in French programs in North Carolina colleges and universities. An inaugural scholarship of $5,000 was awarded to Sarah Allen, an undergraduate at UNCG, to spend the 2009-2010 year studying at the Université de Lille. Sarah has begun a blog on her stay in France, which you may read at http://sarahalille.blogspot.com/ . "I have the honor of being one of the first recipients of the John Philip Couch scholarship for NC French students studying abroad. I chose Université Lille 3 mainly because I am interested in the culture of Northern France. I am planning to focus on literature and history, which will help to expand my knowledge of French culture and aid in my fluency in the language," says Sarah Allen. |
