Second International Poetry Conference:
Poetry and Poetics


March 3-5, 2005


Program

This is the Second International Poetry Conference hosted by the Department of Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This conference will bring together a number of distinguished poets, scholars and poet-scholars from such countries as Spain, Peru, Chile, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. Highlights of the conference include several poetry readings, a keynote address by Ana Rossetti, and panels devoted to aspects of Spanish, Spanish American, and Francophone poetry.

Authors are encouraged to bring books to sign and sell at the conference. Please indicate on the registration form if you are interested in this activity.

There is also the possibility of publishing a selection of your poems in The International Poetry Review. Poetry must be submitted in both the original language and in English.

 

Registration Fees


 

$75 Regular participants
$50 Graduate student participants, spouses, or other participants

This fee includes a reception Thursday afternoon and a conference banquet Friday night.

UNCG students and other area college and high school students are invited to the conference free of charge. If you are interested in attending the Friday night banquet ($30.00 per person), please contact Lisa Janvari-Cox. Otherwise, please join us after 6:30 pm in the EUC Ballroom for the keynote address by Ana Rossetti (6:45 pm to 7:30 pm).

UNCG faculty members will be on hand during the conference to assist you and will be easily identifiable.

 

Location

The conference will be held in the Elliott University Center on UNCG's campus. Below are a number of different maps of campus and the area as well as driving directions to the Elliott University Center:

Parking

Visitor parking is available in the Walker Avenue Parking Deck across from the Elliott University Center. To reach the deck, turn left on Stirling Street and the parking deck will be on your left at the corner of Stirling and Theta Streets. Parking is available 24 hours a day at the rate of $1.00 per hour with a $5.00 a day maximum. For more information on visitor parking, please see the UNCG Parking Services web site.

 

Accommodations

UNCG has made arrangements with the Greensboro Marriott Downtown for lodging during this conference. You may make your reservations directly with the hotel by calling 336-379-800 or 800-228-9290. When calling, please make your reservations under the "UNCG International Poetry Conference Block" to receive the special group rate. Hotel reservations for the conference may also be made online. Please note that hotel accommodations are not included with the registration fee. Conference hotel rates at the Greensboro Marriott Downtown are $89 per night plus 13% tax. The cut-off date for reservations is February 18, 2005. Depending on availability, the hotel will continue to accept reservations after this date at the same rate.
