The Department proudly congratulates Spanish majors Colleen Brady, Tiffany Jamerson, and Valentyna Filimonova on their selection to the Golden Chain Honor Society. Founded on the UNCG campus in 1948, the Golden Chain recognizes students for outstanding achievement and service to the University. The seven links of the chain are leadership, scholarship, service, tolerance, judgement, magnanimity, and character.

| New Assistant Professor in Latin American Cultural Studies Joins the Department as of Fall 2009 | |
| We're very pleased to welcome the newest member of the Department, Claudia Cabello Hutt, who has her Ph.D. at Rutgers University. Her primary areas of research and teaching are nineteenth- and twentieth-century Latin American literature and culture, with an emphasis on the Southern Cone, women writers, intellectual history, and visual culture. Her work is heavily influenced and reoriented by the study of other disciplines such as feminist and gender studies, English literature, and visual culture studies. | |
