Department Goals

  • To provide practical training in the basic skills of listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing
  • To promote those values in the liberal arts tradition that derive particularly from the study of language, literature and culture
  • To increase understanding of language as structure and process
  • To provide an enlightening encounter with cultures and modes of thought different from one's own

The Department of Romance Languages is pleased to offer a program in Portuguese with four semesters of language study.

Typically, we offer POR 101 and POR 203 in the fall semester and POR 102 and POR 204 in the spring semester.

Completion of the four-semester sequence in Portuguese will satisfy the foreign language requirement and will prepare students for study abroad in a Portuguese-speaking country. For information on study abroad opportunities in Brazil, please contact the International Programs Center at 336-334-5404.
