Internal Funding for Research

The Office of Research and Economic Development provides intramural research support in the form of competitive grants for which faculty. These funds are to be used to initiate or enhance research, scholarship, and creative activity.

There are three types of intramural grants. - New Faculty Research Grants - These grants are awarded to untenured, tenure-track faculty below the rank of professor in their first year of appointment.

Regular Faculty Research Grants - These grants are awarded to tenured, tenure-track, and clinical and applied professional faculty.

Summer Excellence Research Grants - These grants are awarded to untenured, tenure-track faculty and are used exclusively for summer salary.

International Research - For international research the International Program Center offers additional support for a New Faculty Research Grant, a Regular Faculty Research Grant, or a Summer Excellence Research Grant through the Kohler Fund. Application for this support is done in conjunction with an application for a New Faculty Research Grant, a Regular Faculty Research Grant, or a Summer Excellence Research Grant.

Women's and Gender Studies Research - The Linda Arnold Carlisle Faculty Research Grants are awarded to faculty to support research or creative activity related to women's and gender studies. Information is available at http://www.uncg.edu/wms/secondary_pages/financial.html#fac

Scholars' Travel Fund - The Scholars' Travel Fund (STF) provides faculty members with supplemental travel funds to support presentation of their research, scholarship, or creative activity, to serve as chairpersons, to participate as panelists, or to contribute in other appropriate manners at scholarly meetings.Click here for application instructions.

International Travel (Other than Canada and Mexico) - The International Travel Fund provides faculty with supplemental travel funds to share their scholarship with an international audience. Additional information can be found at http://www.uncg.edu/ipg/travelfunds.html

Subsidies in Support of Publication, Media Development, and Exhibitions- The Office of Research and Economic Development provides support to supplement charges associated with publications of books, development of media, exhibition and performance charges, and page charges for publishing manuscripts.
