The Office of Research and Economic Development welcomes you to the following overview of UNCG's electronic research administration computing systems.
SeRA is comprised of serveral interfaced systems used to manage the various processes of university research administration. These web-based modules, hosted by UNC-CH Office of Research Information Systems, will replace the current paper-based applications, manual routing, hand signature certification and storage requirements associated with activities such as proposal submissions, protocol submissions to use human participants in research, and innovation disclosures. In addition, SeRA will combine UNCG administrative research data into a central database that will provide a higher level of security access, enhanced data backup and restoration procedures, and a range of reporting options including the ability to export reports to Microsoft Excel. These modules include but are not limited to the following:
RAMSeS - (Research Administration Management System and electronic Submission) Primarily used for proposal and award management. Includes proposal development, submission, electronic routing and approval, and electronic document management. Also includes award setup and tracking, financial integration, award reporting and closeout.
SIMS - (Spartan Institutional Review Board Management System) This system is used to track and manage Human Subjects Research data. System records receipt of protocol applications, allows for review determination and management, and agenda management. Also automatically generates notifications to investigators.
SACS - (Spartan Animal Care System) This system is scheduled to become available for use in Spring 2010. The system will be used to track and manage Animal Research data. System provides for the electronic submission of protocol applications by investigators, allows for review determination and management, and agenda management. Also automatically generates notifications to investigators. Upon procurement of appropriate hardware and devices, system also provides functionality for electronic census management, vet care and billing for animal care services rendered.
InnovoTrac - (Innovation Tracking for The Office of Technology Transfer) This system is scheduled to become available for use in Spring 2010. The system will be used for web-based invention disclosure, web-based material transfer agreement submission, intellectual property (innovations, patents and agreements) management and reporting. Also includes web-based marketing portal.
COI - (Conflict of Interest) This system, currently being tested, is scheduled to become available for use in 2010. The system will be used by lnvestigators, Inventors and Administrators in identifying circumstances that may give rise to potential conflicts of interest related to research, technology transfer or administrative responsibilities.
For each University research project (sponsored or unsponsored) , the Project-Specific Conflict of Interest Disclosure form must be timely filed for each University employee, student or trainee involved in the design, conduct or reporting of the research project for whom one or more of the answers posed in the disclosure form is “yes.” The University PI is obligated to ensure that any potential conflict of interest that exists in relation to the research project is reported as required by this University policy.
Faculty and staff in certain administrative positions responsible for resource allocation, personnel decisions, business contracts, purchasing, technology transfer, and other sensitive activities are required to complete an annual questionnaire regarding external relationships that might create or be perceived to create conflicts of interest with their University responsibilities.
