
The SPARTAN program provides research administrators with information about research personnel, practices and resources at UNCG. It also creates a forum for establishing professional connections with other UNCG research administrators. There are two annual cycles of seminars. SPARTAN Junior consists of RAMSeS 101, Research 101 (parts1 and 2), Pre-Award Basics and Post-Award Basics. The SPARTAN Senior seminars are RAMSeS Senior, Records Management, Managing Budgets, Sponsor Specifics and two seminars offered through Human Resources, Conflict Resolution and Time Management.
The following SPARTAN seminars are currently scheduled:
RAMSeS 101 is an introduction to creating a RAMSeS file for an external funding request. Each type of information required, the places they are entered and the means of annotating them will be addressed. Common mistakes or oversights will also be addressed.
Pre-Award Basics is designed to provide an overview of UNCG's pre-award, proposal development and approval, grant and contract activities. Specifically, the presentation describes the elements of project development for externally funded activities and the entities involved in this process at UNCG. It will also provide administrators with information unique to UNCG and seeks to foster a forum for developing professional connections with other UNCG research administrators.
Post-Award Basics is designed to provide an overview of UNCG's post-award grant and contract activities. It will also provide research administrators with information unique to UNCG in respect to research administration.
RAMSeS Senior addresses the reasons for the information gathered in RAMSeS files, describes the elements that are captured for proposals which are funded and potential uses of this information by the research administrator.
This workshop covers the ins and outs of managing a budget for an externally funded program. It includes consideration of how the budget from the grant proposal becomes a budget with associated account codes, related Banner nuances and activity plus the types of activities that occur in the lifecycle of a budget for an externally funded project.
Records Management is a research administration specific consideration of department and institution level records keeping related to external funding. Special emphasis is placed on best practices for maintaining accurate, up-to-date records to benefit and inform PI¿s, the department and administrators. Templates that can be utilized to accomplish these purposes will be provided.
Each federal department has idiosyncratic characteristics in its funding announcements, application requirements and application forms. This workshop looks at some of the idiosyncrasies of the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, US Department of Education and other notable agencies significant to the UNCG research community.
