After UNCG, the world of hospitality and tourism awaits. Positions are available and educated professionals are needed within each segment of the broader hospitality industry (hotels, foodservice, site attractions, private clubs, luxury resorts, meeting services). The supply of graduates with a specialized focus on the hospitality industry is very small compared to the huge demand of this fast growing industry. Hospitality and Tourism Management graduates often have a competitive edge over students with degrees in general business or other programs not specifically focused on the industry and can move up in the ranks more quickly. Students complete 200 hours of pre-internship work in the industry and then pursue a 480-hour managerial internship. Two concentrations are offered, Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Travel and Tourism Management.
HTM Mission Statement
The Hospitality Management Program prepares undergraduate students for management positions in the hotel, restaurant and allied industries. Program faculty apply their investigational skills to solve critical operational and service problems facing these industries and to benchmark good practice for the professional community served by UNCG.
Recreation and Parks Management is an exciting and rewarding field that offers many possibilities for study and career opportunities. The primary purpose of the Recreation and Parks Management Program is to prepare quality professional personnel to assume leadership roles in leisure service occupations. The Program is committed to offering an academically challenging program of undergraduate education coupled with a solid foundation of a liberal arts education, and has been accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association´s Council on Accreditation since 1981. The professional core curriculum and the program concentrations in (1) Leisure Services Management, (2) Therapeutic Recreation, and (3) Commercial Recreation are based on the philosophy that leisure experiences are essential to the growth and development of all human beings.
RPM Mission Statement
Within the Department of Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management, the mission of the Recreation and Parks Management Program is to prepare professionals in leisure services management, therapeutic recreation, and commercial recreation and event management to enrich the quality of life of citizens in the Piedmont Triad and beyond, through excellence in teaching, research, professional service, and community outreach.
