Dr. Erin Bentrim-Tapio, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Evaluation and Research, Ted Elling, University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Diane E. Waryas, College of Southern Nevada conducted a preconference workshop at the 2008 International Assessment and Retention Conference held in June in Scottsdale, AZ.

Dr. Erin Bentrim-Tapio, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Evaluation and Research, Mr. Stanley Gajda, Assistant Director for the Office of Campus Activities and Programs and Dr. Cathy H. Hamilton, Director for Office of Leadership and Service-Learning presented the results of their research at the 2007 International Assessment and Retention Conference held in June in St. Louis. The presentation was entitled "We Matter, Men Change: How the Socially Responsible Leadership Scale Might Impact Retention" and addressed leadership development as it relates to under-represented student populations, specifically African American males. The results were addressed not only in the context of using the assessment within the division as part of the annual reporting cycle, but also to inform pedagogy and cross institutional support for research methodology, urban architecture and interior renewal, and community leadership courses.
