Student Affairs Awards Program

On Wednesday April 18th the Staff Development Committee hosted the third annual Division of Student Affairs Staff Awards in the Cone Ballroom.  Highlights of the program included a slide show presentation of the nominees and a performance by the children’s choir of the Murphy Traditional Academy, “Murphy Melodies”.

The Division of Student Affairs traditionally presents three awards - Unsung Hero, Team Player and Employee of the Year.  This year the eleven nominees for each of the awards included:  Kathleen McGirty, Kevin McClain and Heather Sanderson for Unsung Hero; Michael Williams, Rosi Crawford, Katie Brown, Stan Gajda and Janet Dunbar for Team Player; Kim Sousa-Peoples, Checka Leinwall and Kim Clark for Employee of the Year.

Unsung Hero:  Kevin McClain
Brooks Graham presented the Unsung Hero Award to Kevin McClain. 
Kevin’s nomination praised the impact he has had on the division, specifically commending the increased web presence and technological credibility the Division of Student Affairs has enjoyed as a result of his work.

Team Player:  Stan Gajda
Lesley Veach presented the Team Player Award to Stan Gajda.
Stan’s volunteer commitments on campus and in the community were highlighted in his nomination.  Stan was specifically praised for his ability to collaborate with other departments, and for his recent recognition as the Guilford County Big Brother of the Year.

Employee of the Year:  Kim Sousa-Peoples
Brad Johnson presented the Employee of the Year Award to Kim Sousa-Peoples. Kim’s nomination highlighted her leadership abilities as the Director of the Office of Orientation and Family Programs.  Kim was specifically commended for the extraordinary planning and organizational skills she displays in coordinating the introduction of thousands of students and parents to the UNCG community.
