Davis Lee, Office of Disability Services, was awarded $775 to attend a
conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities. Davis first came
to UNCG as a 17 year old freshman in 1979. After a 6-year stint in the Navy,
he returned to complete his undergraduate degree in English with teacher
certification. In the local school system, Davis taught American literature,
creative writing, and remedial reading and writing classes for students
with learning disabilities and behavioral and emotional challenges. He returned
to UNCG as a part time tutor/program assistant in the Office of Disability
Services and subsequently enrolled in the Joint Master of Social Work Program
between NC A&T and UNCG, receiving his MSW in May 2004. He considers
his recent appointment as Assistant Director of Disability Services to be
his “dream job.”
Justin Williams, from Housing & Residence Life, was awarded $500.00
so he could attend the Association of Fraternity Advisors
(AFA) National conference held in Hollywood, California. This is a national
organization devoted to working with fraternities, sororities, and offices
of Greek Life across the nation. As the professional staff member who is
responsible for Greek housing, Justin felt it would be good for him to attend
and learn more about these groups so UNCG’s Greek housing could be
strengthened and a model for other universities to look at.
Amanda Mereau of Housing and Residence Life was awarded $829 to attend ASJA conference as part of an externship with Student Conduct.
Kim Sexton-Lewter, Student Health Services, will use her stipend of $596
to attend NC Summer School for Alcohol and Drug Studies.
Brooks Graham, Director of the Office for Adult Students,
was awarded $900 to attend the ACPA conference in order to
research greater opportunities and services for adult students. She shared her appreciation with the committee
following the conference. “This conference gave me a wonderful opportunity to meet some of my professional
counterparts and to learn from their various programs and agendas, as well as the opportunity to meet other
Student Affairs professionals dealing with new and different approaches to student services. . . . I have returned with
a pile of paper and a head full of ideas. Without your support, this experience would not have been available
to me, and I am very grateful for this remarkable opportunity.”
