The annual Student Affairs Auction helps us raise funds for Professional Development opportunities. How can you help?

Amanda Mereau, Chair of the Professional Development Scholarship Fund Committee, announced at the October 6 All-Staff Meeting,
the recipients of Scholarship Funds selected for Fall 2005. The Selection Committee reviewed the proposals and agreed to fund
80 percent of the applications. The recipients, pictured from left to right, are Diana Karczmarczyk, Robert Watson, Katrina McClain,
and Laura Randolph.
Diana Karczmarczyk, Housing and Residence Life, will use the funds allotted to her to attend the 2006 ASJA conference in Clearwater Beach, Florida, in February. The conference, a good networking opportunity, is designed to address legal and conduct related issues. She looks forward to sharing what she learns with her co-workers and the Division, perhaps at an All-Staff Meeting or through a FRED program.
Robert Watson, Housing and Residence Life, plans to take four e-courses provided through ACPA:
When he completes the courses, he will share his new knowledge through staff in-services with CAs, and CRLs, in class material through UNS 101 and through the FRED series next academic year.
Katrina McClain, Office of Multicultural Affairs, plans to attend the annual conference sponsored by the National Association of Multicultural Education (NAME). She expressed that “participation in this conference will affirm our (my) need to prepare our students for their responsibilities in an interdependent world.” She will share her knowledge and resources with the Division of Student Affairs in student staff trainings and whenever other opportunities avail themselves.
Laura Randolph, Housing and Residence Life, requested support to attend the National First Year Experience Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in February. This conference will focus on trends and issues facing our first year students. It will also focus on how we as administrators can better support their needs to be successful. When she returns, she hopes to have the opportunity to initiate brown bag luncheons on some of the “hot topic” trends our students experience with other departments in the Division.
