Department Description

SES Teaching ImageThe Department of Specialized Education Studies offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in Special Education. A Bachelor's degree is available in

  • Professions in Deafness (concentrations available in the following areas)
    - Advocacy and Services for the Deaf
    - Interpreter Preparation
    - ASL Teacher Licensure
    - Birth-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Licensure
  • Special Education: General Curriculum
  • Dual Major in Special Education: General Curriculum and Elementary Education

Two M.Ed. programs are available:

  • Special Education: General Curriculum and
  • Birth-Kindergarten: Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (a program jointly administered with the Department of Human Development and Family Studies)

A Ph.D. program in Specialized Education is now being offered.

Graduates of programs in Specialized Education Services are prepared for diverse roles in a variety of educational and community environments. They will be prepared to work with individuals with disabilities across the life span.
