GLOBAL HEARTH PROJECT - Research

Latin America Global Hearth Study

In 2003, Dr. Belinda Hardin received a grant to translate the ACEI Global Self-Assessment into Spanish and conduct a reliability and validity study of the Spanish edition in five Spanish-speaking countries. Known as the Global Hearth Project, this research was conducted in Guatemala, Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, and Mexico with 69 early childhood programs and 138 participants. Honoring Teachers: A World of Perspectives

In the spring of 2004, Dr. Hardin participated in an international survey project entitled, Honoring Teachers: A World of Perspectives. The purpose of this survey was to better understand teachers’ social status in societies and their work-conditions. The survey included six questions, which were developed by Vidya Thirumurthy, Assistant Professor at Millersville University and Chairperson of the ACEI International/ Intercultural Committee.

Dr. Hardin posted the survey in English and Spanish on the Global Hearth website and notified colleagues in Spanish-speaking countries of the project. Thirty-one educators in three Latin America countries (Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru) completed the survey. Latin American survey responses were included in a panel discussion at the ACEI annual conference in April, 2004 along with teacher responses from India, China, Hong Kong, Hungary, and four African countries.
