For a minor in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies a student must first complete the following required courses:

  • SES 101 American Sign Language I
  • SES 245 Introduction to the Deaf Community

Then a minimum of an additional 12 semester hours (4 Courses) must be completed from the following:

  • SES 102 American Sign Language II
  • SES 203 American Sign Language III
  • SES 204 American Sign Language IV
  • SES 305 American Sign Language V
  • SES 369 Linguistics of American Sign Language
  • SES 370 American Sign Language/Deaf Literature
  • SES 380 English/American Sign Language Lexical Development
  • SES 400 Global Perspectives on Deafness

Students wishing to pursue a American Sign Language/Deaf Studies minor should meet with an advisor in the program each semester in order to select courses relative to course sequencing, course availability and to the student’s progress, interests, and career goals.

Students should be aware that space in all of the above listed courses may be limited and could prohibit completion of the minor if not carefully planned. Students must achieve a B- (2.70) or higher in all the SES courses, including required courses, for progression and completion of the American Sign Language/Deaf Studies minor.
