Joseph Hill

player 6

Hello. My name is Joseph Hill. I am deaf. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I have deaf brothers and sisters. I am the youngest of all. My mother is hard of hearing and my father is hearing. I was mainstreamed for my whole life with the deaf program in school. After graduating from high school, I went to Miami University of Ohio and majored in Systems Analysis. After graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Systems Analysis, I went straight to Gallaudet University in Washington, DC for the masters and doctorate degrees in Linguistics. I love teaching. I taught ASL linguistics courses at Gallaudet. Also, I have taught ASL and English language courses in Italy during summer. I like to do research. My proudest moment of my research experience is being part of the research team on African-American ASL in southern U.S states where in the past black deaf children were educationally segregated from white deaf children. My hobbies are reading, watching TV, people watching, and dancing. Yes, a deaf man can dance. I hope you see you soon at UNCG.

Sam Parker

player 1

Hello. My name is Sam Parker I grew up in the Deaf community as a Child of Deaf Adults. In addition to my parents being deaf I also have many deaf relatives. I focus on the student’s ability to express themselves in American Sign Language through use of Non-Manual Signals, movement, story telling, and engagement. I encourage and challenge my students to be creative in how they express themselves. No one likes a disengaged signer. I strive for students to be invested in their communication with others and truly engage in communication. I hope you will consider our program. Visit the SES Faculty Page for more information.
