The Department of Specialized Education Services offers a B.S. degree in Education of Deaf Children with two concentrations, one in Teacher Preparation and the other as an Educational Interpreter. The Teacher Preparation concentration qualifies majors for initial  licensure in North Carolina in grades K-12 Hearing Impaired. The Educational Interpreter concentration prepares students to become educational interpreters in the public school system. The department also offers initial licensure in K-12 Special Education:  General Curriculum designed to support exceptional learners included in general curriculum programs.  The department also participates in the Birth-Kindergarten Program offered through the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. Admission to Teacher Education Initial admission procedures to the University are managed by the Admissions Office at UNCG, 123 Mossman Building, UNCG, Greensboro, NC 27402. Education majors must fill out an application to Teacher Education and to Student Teaching. Admission application to Teacher Education should be completed first and is made at the end of the sophomore year. The application is filled out in the Teachers Academy in Curry 318. The second application is for admission to student teaching and is made during the year before the student teaching, between January 15th and Feb. 15th of the year prior to the internship and is also filled out in the Teachers Academy.
