MESSAGE FROM THE CHANCELLOR
We at UNCG are committed to being the best student centered university
in North Carolina. To fulfill this mission requires the dedication,
enthusiasm and competence of everyone at UNCG. We are committed
to providing an environment free from recognized hazards which may
cause injury or illness. It is my charge to each member of the university
community that you conduct all activities in accordance with applicable
laws, regulations and university safety policies. Our mission as
a university requires many varied jobs and tasks. There is not one
that is so important that it cannot be performed safely.
Each of us makes decisions on a daily basis that will affect our
safety, and in many instances the safety and well-being of others.
We must put the safety of our students, colleagues, and the public
in front of all other considerations. Safety must be considered
a basic responsibility of our everyday pursuits, in concert with
teaching, research and service.
To assist in making our campus a safer place, the Office of Safety
was created to provide advice and leadership for all of us. This
office facilitates many actions necessary to create a safer environment.
Concerns can be expressed to this office and the university's safety
committees by calling 334-HELP.
Truly, the heart of this institution is the people who dedicate
themselves to its mission. Understanding that they are our most
valuable resource, we will do all that is reasonable to protect
them. Each of us is expected to support this effort by contributing
the necessary resources and time to ensure that my goal of a safe
university environment is achieved.
