Why do we need Friends Helping Friends? To rephrase the question, why do we believe that students need suicide intervention? Specifically, our research indicates five specific concerns we have about students that put them at risk.

Why Do We Need Friends Helping Friends?
Our research indicates that the following concerns need to be addressed in order to provide assistance to at-risk students:
- Students are at increased high risk of mental health concerns and suicide during college.
- Students show low rates of help-seeking behavior.
- Students have low mental health literacy.
- Subpopulations of students may be at greater risk of mental health concerns.
- Students resist or delay help-seeking because of stigma of mental health problems.
