The new campus-endorsed student health insurance plan requires students to come to the UNCG Student Health Services FIRST for diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, injuries, and benefits mandated by North Carolina law.
The UNCG Student Health Services is a fully accredited primary health care facility with Medical , Women's Health, Sports Medicine and Immunizations Clinics, Counseling Center and Wellness Center as well as on-site laboratory, radiology and pharmacy services. Many student health needs can be met by the UNCG Student Health Services on campus at a reduced cost, saving students both time and money. When students are seen in the UNCG Student Health Services for diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, injuries, and benefits mandated by North Carolina law, the annual deductible is waived and covered services are paid at 100% (there is a $ 1000 policy year cap maximum for prescriptions).
The UNCG Student Health Services healthcare providers will determine whether a referral to an outside specialist is required. Referrals to an outside specialist will not be made for services that can be provided within the UNCG Student Health Services. Referrals are reported to the Insurance company to expedite claims processing for covered services by the outside specialist to whom students are referred.
Referrals cannot be processed retroactively - - this constitutes fraud and is illegal.
The insurance company is under no obligations to pay claims for specialty services that do not have a referral from the UNCG Student Health Services UNLESS:
Please note that Deductibles and Co-Pays apply to all referrals and exceptions to the referral requirement as described above.
