The Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) provides a wide range of counseling, psychological, and testing services to currently enrolled UNCG students. Our goal is to support and challenge students’ development in ways that enable them to take advantage of the personal, professional, and educational opportunities at UNCG. Counseling services are available to all currently enrolled UNCG students for no additional charge.
Our professional staff includes licensed Psychologists, Counselors, and Clinical Social Workers as well as graduate interns. We are committed to meeting the needs of people of diverse racial, ethnic and national backgrounds, gender, sexual/affectional orientations, mental and physical abilities, religious/spiritual beliefs, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as other types of diversity.
Our therapists provide short term counseling, in a confidential and affirming environment, to help students address a diverse range of mental health, developmental, situational and relationship concerns.
Our therapists facilitate counseling and psycho-educational groups that include up to 6-8 students who share similar concerns. Group members receive and provide support, information and feedback to enhance their coping skills.
Crisis intervention is provided for students who are experiencing an emotionally critical situation that could compromise their safety or the safety of others. Students experiencing a crisis can call or come to our office, or they can contact the UNCG Police at the 24 hour number of 336-334-4444.
Our staff provides consultation to administrators, faculty/staff, and parents regarding mental health, developmental and situational concerns impacting college students.
Our staff seeks to reach out to the university community through programs and presentations on a variety of mental health topics designed to promote a positive mental health environment on our campus, in addition to providing consultation services and maintaining collaborative and liaison relationships with the university’s faculty and staff. Our staff is available to provide presentations that facilitate students’ life skills development and mental health. Outreach programs and presentations can be scheduled by logging on toto http://www.uncg.edu/shs/wellness/programs/, or by calling The Counseling & Testing Center or The Wellness Center.
Our staff works with psychiatrists from the Student Health Service Medical Clinic who evaluate and prescribe medications for students.
If a student needs services beyond the scope of those provided by CTC, we will work with him/her to find helpful resources in the community to address the student’s issues.
To set up an initial session, the student needs to come to the CTC and complete intake information paperwork. Your information will be reviewed by a therapist, who may then speak with the student and/or help schedule an intake appointment with a member of our clinical staff. Students with concerns of an emergency nature are encouraged to let us know right away.
The CTC offers many different standardized tests for students. More information about the tests we offer is available on our website or by contacting The Counseling & Testing Center.
