UNCG students in degree seeking programs and taking 6 or more main campus credit hours must provide proof of health insurance. Many students already have health insurance to offset the expenses due to illnesses, accidents, and prescriptions through parent plans, family plans, employer-sponsored plans, or private policies. Students covered already by one of these plans, need simply verify the policy through a secure on-line system by providing a current, valid health insurance policy number.
Students who do not provide a current, valid insurance policy number will be enrolled in a campus-endorsed student health insurance plan and a charge will be placed on their student account. The Student Health Insurance Plan works in partnership with the University Health Fee to provide seamless health care at a reasonable cost to students. The University Health Fee covers provider charges at the Student Health Center, while the Student Health Insurance Plan helps cover other charges such as lab, x-ray, and pharmaceuticals.
The campus-endorsed health insurance plan is offered to students at a reasonable rate. Effective dates are from August 1 to January 1 and January 2 to July 31. Student Health Services will file Pearce & Pearce Inc. claims for services performed by SHS providers. It is the policy holder’s responsibility to file student insurance claims from outside providers. Once students have enrolled into the Pearce & Pearce student health insurance plan they can log on to their Pearce & Pearce account and print out temporary I.D. cards to use until their permanent cards are mailed.

When students register for classes they will simply verify their insurance policy information using the online process. Verification for each academic school year needs to be completed on-line by the last day of registration for each semester. In most cases the insurance verification process takes 1 - 2 weeks.
