Bulimia Nervosa (BN)


Symptoms/Signs

  • Eating an unusual abundance of food in a discrete period of time (ie, 2 hours).
  • A sense of being out of control over eating during the episode.
  • Recurrent use of behaviors to compensate for binge eating to prevent weight gain.
  • Binge eating and compensating behavior occurs at least twice per week for three months.
  • Bodyweight heavily influences one’s self-evaluation.
  • PURGING TYPE — To compensate for a binge, the person regularly engages in self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, diuretics, and/or enemas.
  • NON-PURGING TYPE — To compensate for a binge, the person regularly engages in fasting and/or excessive exercise.
