Why is BMI not a complete indicator of health?

BMI is the ratio of weight (kg) to height (m). Your bodyweight, or the number on the scale, is a combination of muscle, fat, bone, fluid, etc. Therefore, the BMI can be skewed by circumstances such as high or low muscle mass. A person with significant amounts of muscle will weigh more and may rank obese. A slender person with relatively low muscle mass may look normal but could be considered skinny fat.
