International students are an extremely diverse and growing population on campus. The largest group of international students is Asians. However, international students come from all continents of the world (Constantine, Okazaki, & Utsey, 2004). As such, there are many challenges that may influence their academic and social adjustment to college (SRPC, 2004). These frequently include financial, language, and cultural value differences and other social barriers that may impact their academic performance and overall functioning. Some of these challenges may result in acculturative stress, due to adaptation to a new culture, and also cause them to be at increased risk for the development of mental health issues (Constantine, Okazaki, & Utsey, 2004; Sumer, Poyrazil & Graham, 2008). Sumer, Poyrazil & Graham (2008) in their study (N=440) found that social dysfunction and a lack of social support was highly correlated with depression and anxiety in international college students.
