Deadflames Digest ArchiveWelcome to the Deadflames Digest Archive. Deadheads were electronic pioneers long before it became fashionable to use the Internet or to populate the World Wide Web. Even prior to the establishment of the Usenet in late 1979, Deadheads were communicating electronically. By using the Deadflames Digest Archive, it is possible to search the conversations Deadheads had on rec.music.gdead from the Summer of 1989 nearly to the present. Although rec.music.gdead was not named as such until the summer of 1986, many of its original participants were veterans of previous incarnations of the newsgroup. (See Kraitch, Mitch (1993). The history of Deadheads in Cyberspace. [On-line]. Available: ftp://gdead.berkeley.edu/pub/gdead/miscellaneous/History-of-Deadheads-in-Cyberspace). Rebecca Adams began downloading the Digests included in this collection after Forrest Colliver, then her husband's boss, told her how to subscribe. Since that time, many of her students, her daughter, and a few volunteers have helped her download these files. She would like to thank the following for their assistance: Samantha Ammons, Joe Andrews, Alyce Army, Matt Esposito, Glen Godwin, Mark Hauber, Kristen Huff, Hadley Adams Iliff, Stephanie Jennings, Phil Koenig, Jeff Meyers, Robert Sardiello, Koji Ueno, Shelvy Wallace, Jeff Woods, and Cynthia Pfaff Wright. She would also like to thank Matt Hembree, who worked with Heidi Schachtschneider and Gloria Edwards of UNCG's Instructional and Research Computing to create this data base, and John Young, UNCG's Dean of Continual Learning, who provided Rebecca with the funds to hire Matt.
