How to Become a Teacher

If you have never been a teacher, there are several paths open to you. The first option would be to complete an education program leading to Standard Professional I Licensure. The UNCG Teachers Academy has more information on their Web site.

Details about the required course of study required for teacher licensure can also be found at the following sites:

It is also possible to begin teaching prior to receiving a license. Lateral Entry allows a qulaified individual to begin teaching on provisional basis and provides three years for completion of the licensure program. For more information visit the UNCG Teachers Academy Web site.

ncTeach NC TEACH is a rigorous, high quality program designed to recruit, prepare and support college graduates and mid-career professionals as they enter the teaching profession in North Carolina. Visit the NC TEACH Web site for more details.
